George Henry Durrie, 19th Century American Artist

George Henry Durrie (6 June 1820 – 15 October 1863) was an American artist whose rural winter scenes became popular in reproduction. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1820. His father was the son of an emigrant from England and his mother was a descendant of Governor William Bradford, a Mayflower pilgrim who became a leader of the Separatist settlers in Plymouth Colony.

There is more on his life and work at www.questroyalfineart.com/artist/george-henry-durrie

The DFA is aware of possible connections for the Durie family to the early Durries in the USA. The late Jerry Durrie of Alberqueque researched his family and these are currently being explored. If you have any information to help us, such as history of the Durrie antecedents please make contact. Also if you know more about George Henry Durrie.
